Going to the Festival
Going to the Festival is a children’s picture book that brings together storytelling, culture, and shared community life. Written by Jodi-Tatiana Charles as her second children’s book, and illustrated by Julia Potvin, it introduces young readers to the experience of showing up and taking part in something larger than themselves.
Through the journey of four friends, the story shows how traditions are shaped through participation. It weaves together creativity, civic engagement, and cultural awareness as they move through the festival, discovering how individual contributions help bring it to life.
The story reflects how local businesses, artists, and community members all play a role. From food and art to music and shared experiences, it highlights how participation supports the people and places that make a community thrive.
At its core, Going to the Festival is about connection to people, place, and the experiences that continue to shape communities over time.
